Business Training | Entrepreneurial Resources
Every business is different and therefore, regardless of experience, there are certain things that need to be taught. And as the business progresses, training employees will become a regular event as new things are introduced in your field of work and your entrepreneurial resources grow.
Here are a few basic steps you can follow when training new employees.
-
1. Let them read the company manual. If you don’t have one, no problem. You can always have print-outs of procedures or how-to’s for the employee to refer back to.
-
2. Do a walk through. It might seem time consuming but when you see something done in front of you, it’s often easier to copy when left on your own. So explain what’s involved in a procedure and then let them try it on their own as you watch.
-
3. Always explain. Even if a step seems obvious to you, it’s best to explain why the step is being done. The steps to a procedure will stick in their minds quicker if they know why they are doing something.
-
4. Have someone be their “go-to” person. If the new employee has any questions throughout the day or is unsure of something, they have someone there to help them.
-
5. Pat them on the back. If they catch on to something quick or do it right the first time around, let them know they’re doing a good job. It will encourage them and they’ll feel appreciated.
Involve the employees as much as possible and get their feedback so that the next time training comes around, it will be more effective and efficient. Future business opportunity seekers will be thankful for this in the long-run.
